Sustainable Farming, Empowering Farmers, Thriving Together

On March 5th, 2024, at exactly 11:30 a.m., the Farm Hall once again became the heart of inspiration as MUHMFCIG held its 6th Women’s Conference, themed “The Women, Not Just in the Farm.” This gathering celebrated the evolution of the cooperative woman—from farmer to entrepreneur, from mother to mentor, and from laborer to leader.
From the early hours of 8:30 a.m., the hall buzzed with excitement. The conference opened with the traditional cooperative greetings, followed by a motivational address from the Women’s Committee Chairlady, who emphasized the cooperative’s long-standing commitment to empowering women and youth through practical agricultural education.
The event opened with warm welcomes from the President, Mrs. Awubung Valerie, and the Women’s Committee Chairlady, Mrs. Atabongcha Justine F., who both applauded the steady rise of women participation in the cooperative—from 14 members in 2022 to over 200 by the start of 2024.
Throughout the day, sessions focused on women’s empowerment beyond agriculture. Discussions revolved around micro-loans for petty businesses, the girl child’s education, financial literacy, and community service through farm-based outreach. MUHMFCIG’s 2023 Women’s Committee report was cited as evidence of progress, showing improved livelihoods, increased Njangi savings, and enhanced community impact across five sub-quarters.
Guest speakers from the Sub-Divisional Delegation of Agriculture and Sustainable Women Organization (SWO) joined to share insights on sustainable agribusiness and gender inclusion. The conference ended with networking, refreshments, and a symbolic group pledge — “One Spirit, One Love, One Purpose.”
The Women’s Conference stood as a testament that MUHMFCIG women are not just in the farm — they are shaping the future of cooperative agriculture in Cameroon.
