Sustainable Farming, Empowering Farmers, Thriving Together

The Mforya Uphill Mixed Farming Common Initiative Group (MUHMFCIG) continues its journey toward modernization and professional agribusiness management with major improvements introduced as a result of its upgrade from a Common Initiative Group (CIG) to a Cooperative Society (MUHMFCOOP).
Born out of the need to strengthen farmers working capital needs, savings culture, improve hand-on practical training for working capital management, and ensure financial transparency, MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP is now better equipped to serve its growing membership base across Mforya, Mile 4 Nkwen, and the wider Bafut Subdivision. These changes reflect recommendations from recent Annual General Meetings and supervisory reports calling for the computerization and formalization of cooperative operations.
Below are the three key innovations recently rolled out to better serve members:

To promote accountability, sustainability and trust, MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP has introduced an official Membership Passbook for registration of members and to keep records of financial management of their working capital needs. This passbook guides farmers to reimburse their working capital needs which was granted to them by the cooperative, as they place it into use and pay back, intrest-free.
The passbook system empowers members to:
For many members—especially women and youths engaged in Njangi and farm capital schemes—this passbook is more than a booklet; it is a symbol of inclusion in a transparent financial system that values every contribution.

In line with MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP’s vision of innovation and professional agribusiness development, MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP has deployed a Membership Account Software to digitize cooperative operations. This marks a major step toward the long-awaited computerization recommended by both the Supervisory Board and external auditors.
The software is designed with the following core capabilities:
Each member now has a digital profile capturing personal details, savings history, loan records, and transaction summaries. This reduces errors and ensures quick access to accurate member data.

Deposits, withdrawals, and repayments are entered in real time, ensuring that all financial movements are recorded, traceable, and up to date.
From loan requests to approvals, disbursements, and follow-ups, the system supports effective micro-credit management—helping members grow their farming and petty businesses while maintaining financial discipline.
The software generates summaries and reports that support decision-making by the Board of Directors and committees. This strengthens planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring across MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP.
Only authorized staff can access the system, ensuring data security and accountability in daily operations.
This digital transformation aligns MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP with modern cooperative standards and prepares MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP for future partnerships, audits, and growth as the organization advances toward full cooperative status.

To further enhance transparency and professionalism, MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP has also introduced official Deposit and Withdrawal Slips for all cash transactions.
These slips:
Each transaction now leaves a clear paper trail, reinforcing MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP’s commitment to open, accountable financial practices that protect members’ savings.
With the introduction of the membership passbook, the MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP account software, and standard transaction slips, we are building a cooperative system rooted in transparency, innovation, and member empowerment.
These reforms directly respond to the calls made during recent Annual General Assemblies for:
MUHMFCIG/MUHMFCOOP now stands within the North West Region as a pillar of financial strength to all farmers, supporting the cooperative’s broader mission of improving livelihoods, strengthening food security, and promoting a resilient, eco-friendly value chain for present and future generations.
