Bafut Council Partners with MUHMFCIG to Empower Local Farmers with Financial and Material Support

Following the financial offer recently granted by the Bafut Council and approved by the competent municipal authorities, the Bafut Municipal Council, in partnership with the Mforya Up-Hill Mixed Farming Common Initiative Group (MUHMFCIG), has committed to empowering local farmers and agro-producers across the Bafut Municipality with vital material inputs and financial assistance.

This landmark initiative marks a major step in strengthening community-based agriculture, improving food security, and enhancing livelihoods in the North West Region.

A Strategic Partnership for Community Development

Recognizing MUHMFCIG’s over a decade of impactful service in sustainable mixed farming, capacity building, and community empowerment, the Bafut Council has chosen the cooperative as a key partner for implementing this support program.

MUHMFCIG, a registered and recognized agro-cooperative operating from Mforya through Mile 4 Nkwen, Bamenda, has consistently demonstrated leadership in:

  • Pig and poultry production,
  • Crop cultivation (cassava, corn, beans, yams),
  • Garri and starch processing,
  • Organic manure production, and
  • Training farmers in sustainable practices.

This partnership reflects the Council’s confidence in MUHMFCIG’s governance, transparency, and grassroots reach.

Details of the Financial and Material Offer

According to the official document signed by the Bafut Municipal Council, the support package amounts to a total of:

Twelve Million Five Hundred Thousand (12,500,000) FCFA

This assistance is divided into two major components:

1. Material Support – Valued at Ten Million (10,000,000) FCFA

The material offer is designed to directly boost farm productivity and includes essential agricultural inputs and equipment such as:

  • Cassava planting and processing support materials,
  • Fertilizers and corn seeds,
  • General farm inputs,
  • Feeders and drinkers for livestock and poultry,
  • Buckets and drums,
  • Agricultural machines and tools,
  • Trucks for transportation of produce and inputs,
  • Cutlasses and hoes,
  • Animal feed,
  • Spraying cans for crop protection.

These materials will be distributed to beneficiary farmers and producer groups through MUHMFCIG, ensuring fair access and effective utilization at farm level.

2. Direct Financial Assistance – Two Million Five Hundred Thousand (2,500,000) FCFA

To complete the total support package, a cash amount of:

Two Million Five Hundred Thousand (2,500,000) FCFA

will be handed directly to the President / Chairman of the Board of Delegates of MUHMFCIG. This fund is intended to facilitate:

  • Ongoing agricultural projects,
  • Coordination of input distribution,
  • Support for priority farm activities, and
  • Smooth implementation of the Council’s empowerment program.

Empowering Farmers, Strengthening Food Security

This initiative targets not only MUHMFCIG members but also local farmers and agro-producers within the Bafut Municipality, especially women and youths who form the backbone of agricultural production in the area.

Through this support, the partnership aims to:

  • Increase crop and livestock productivity,
  • Reduce production costs for smallholder farmers,
  • Improve access to quality inputs and tools,
  • Create employment opportunities along the value chain, and
  • Strengthen household incomes and community resilience.

The program aligns with MUHMFCIG’s mission of driving income generation, strengthening food security, and promoting professional agribusiness development through sustainable mixed farming.
