OUR HISTORY

Historical Background of Mforya Uphill Mixed Farming Common Initiative Group

Birthed originally on July 07th 2009, The Mforya – Uphill Mixed Farming Common Initiative Group got enhanced into full operations as a common initiatives group in 2013 with a single sow of the Large White breed, known for its size and resilience. This sow farrowed nine healthy piglets, all of which survived—a promising start that quickly grew the farm’s stock to ten pigs.

Following the relocation of the piggery from Ndamukong to Mforya Bafut, only two pigs remained: a sow and a boar of the Duroc breed. Soon after settling in, the pair was successfully bred, resulting in the farrowing of 14 piglets within two days.

From this strong foundation, the farm continued to expand, diversifying into poultry, rabbit rearing, and organic farming. Animal waste was effectively recycled into compost and organic manure, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and enriching soil fertility
